In today’s analogy we will compare the pilot’s flight plan to the logistics manager’s supply chain. Or, in aviation vernacular, “How do we get there from here? “.
The how-do- we-get-there is really basic. We have a point of departure and we have an ultimate destination, but if we drill down into the complexities that are imbedded into this simple equation from A to B, that’s where we discover that there is in reality a very complicated and unique mechanism behind each flight or logistics supply chain.
Why is the Flight Plan so important? Because the plan as a logistics WMS (Warehouse Management System) captures the essence of a particular airline or a particular 3PL (Third Party Logistics) company.

I will try and explain. A well designed, well researched and prioritized flight plan not only in many ways reflects the culture and focus of a particular airline, the same attributes and qualities drive a logistics operation to design a supply chain that supports and listens to its pilots and operators.
The KISS theory in practice
The flight plan must contain all the critical and relevant information about the weather ahead, any safety concerns on route, air traffic control issues, and a myriad of other issues. This plan needs to be up-to-date and, most critical, USER friendly! This last piece is vital – if a flight plan is not developed and designed by the end-user (The Pilot / Operator) then its overall value to the effectiveness and efficiency of the operation is without question reduced.

We at Locatible have purposely designed and built our system from the ground up. That’s right, we asked the front-line personnel such as the drivers, the loaders, the facility supervisors, etc., what would they need to make the operation work better? They are the key elements in building our New Generation Logistics System (NGLS) by Locatible.
